Sydney Web Design Cost in 2026: What You Actually Pay For
Ask three Sydney studios what a website costs and you will get $1,588, $4,500 and “let’s book a discovery call”. The spread is not really about quality. It is about what each quote counts as included, and what gets invoiced later once you are committed. This is the line-item version: what you are paying for in 2026, where quotes quietly diverge, and which numbers to make someone say out loud before you sign.
The five line items every quote is made of
Strip the deck away and a website quote is five things. Design — the layout and look, whether hand-drawn in Figma or assembled from a theme. Build — turning that into working pages, forms, mobile behaviour. Content — someone has to write the words and source the images, and if it is not you, it is billable. Technical setup — hosting, SSL, security hardening, analytics, the structured data that lets Google and AI answer engines read the site. And revisions — how many rounds of changes before the meter starts.
Almost every nasty surprise in this industry lives in items three and five. A $3,000 quote where you supply all copy and get two revision rounds can end up costing more than a $4,000 quote that includes writing and unlimited tweaks for a month. Ask for the five items broken out separately. Anyone who cannot do that is quoting on vibes.
What the numbers actually look like in Sydney
A traditional Sydney web shop lands around $4,250 for a standard showcase site — and that is usually priced per page, so a five-pager and a fifteen-pager are different conversations. Bilingual is treated as a second project. Schema and FAQ structure get skipped or quoted as an extra. Lead time runs four to eight weeks, most of it waiting on content that never quite arrives from your side.
Our own numbers, for contrast, because vague ranges are useless to anyone actually budgeting:
| Package | Price | Delivery | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $1,588 | 7 days | No site yet, or one past repair. Unlimited pages, bilingual first-pass copy, schema included. |
| Business | $2,688 | 10–14 days | Needs the site to keep producing enquiries — blog automation, AI live chat, GA4 dashboard. |
| E-shop | $3,588 | 15–20 days | Selling online: store, card / WeChat / Alipay, inventory, bulk product SEO. |
Add-ons are where you should still read carefully, on any quote including ours: AI live chat +$400, each extra language +$300, email marketing +$300. Ongoing SEO after launch is a separate monthly plan from $1,000 — a build price and a marketing price are two different things, and studios that blur them are usually hiding one inside the other.
The costs that show up after launch
The build is a one-off. Running the site is not. Budget for hosting and domain renewal, plugin and platform updates, and a backup that someone has actually tested restoring. None of these is expensive on its own; all of them are how a site quietly dies in year two.
Then there is the real recurring cost: getting found. A site with no content plan does nothing after month three. Whether you handle that in-house or pay for it, put a number on it before you commit to the build — because a $1,588 site with a content plan beats a $6,000 site sitting there looking handsome. If you want the longer argument on that trade-off, we wrote it up separately in what a Sydney website is worth.
One more after-launch cost that rarely appears on a quote: who can edit the site. If every text change is a support ticket at an hourly rate, you will stop making changes, and a site nobody updates is a brochure. Ask whether you get admin access and a walkthrough, or whether you are renting access to your own content.
Three questions to ask before you sign anything
- Is the price per page or fixed? This single answer explains most of the gap between two quotes for “the same” site. Per-page pricing also means every future page is a new invoice.
- Who writes the copy, and in how many languages? If the answer is “you send us the content”, add the cost of a copywriter — or several weeks of your own evenings — to the quote.
- Are schema, FAQ structure and Core Web Vitals in the build or extra? In 2026 these decide whether ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google’s AI answers cite you at all. Paying for them later, retrofitted, always costs more.
Cheap and expensive are both fine answers. Unclear is not. Anyone doing honest sydney web design can give you a fixed number and a delivery date on the first call, because they have built the same scope enough times to know what it takes.
How much should a small business website cost in Sydney in 2026?
For a standard multi-page business site, expect around $4,250 from a traditional Sydney studio, or from $1,588 for an AI-assisted build with unlimited pages. Both can be reasonable — what matters is whether copy, a second language, schema and revisions are inside that number or invoiced afterwards.
Why are web design quotes in Sydney so different from each other?
Three reasons, in order of impact: per-page pricing versus fixed scope, who writes the content, and whether technical SEO and structured data are treated as delivery standard or as upsells. Two quotes $2,500 apart are often quoting genuinely different amounts of work.
What ongoing costs come after the website is built?
Hosting and domain renewal, platform and plugin updates, tested backups, and — the big one — content and SEO work to keep the site being found. Ongoing SEO is a separate monthly plan from $1,000; the build price does not include it, and you should be suspicious of anyone implying it does.
Get a fixed number, not a discovery call
Melmel builds and maintains Sydney websites — design, build, bilingual content and the AEO work that gets AI answer engines citing you by name. Prices are published: from $1,588 for an unlimited-page build delivered in seven days, $2,688 for the advanced build, $3,588 for e-commerce. Tell us what the site has to do and we will tell you which package and what it costs, on the first call. English and Chinese, both handled in-house.
